The P-graded regalite mineral construction of 3M's purple sanding belts gives them an aggressive initial cut, consistent cut rate, and long life. Other features include: better leveling with uniform finish; higher stock removal with less heat and loading; and reduced labor cost per workpiece. The belt's butt splice allows unidirectional sanding for extended life and reduced abrasive cost per workpiece.

These seem to cut well on a variety to woods and have a good lifespan.
This is especially useful when removing a tough finish prior to refinishing. Given the long wear these are likely the least expensive belts you can buy. These belts have a long-lasting grit. The belts can be used in either direction (or switched), do not clog quickly and any clogs clean easily.
